The Differential is the component that allows the outside wheel to travel further/faster than the inside wheel when making a corner. It is located between the wheels in a rear wheel drive vehicle, or in the transmission housing in front wheel drive vehicle. All Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel Drive vehicles will have both a front and rear differential. The Differential contains heavy gears, bearings and a lubricating fluid. The fluid level is very important and should be changed on a regular schedule. Any leaks or grinding/crunching noises coming from this area should be addressed promptly.
